BQP Celebrates the 60th Anniversary of the birth of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan at Joe's Pub!

Sixty years ago from this October, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was born into this world and brought with him a musical legacy beyond his own years. This show will honor the 60th anniversary of Nusrat's birth in October, 1948.

We are also honored to be a part of Joe's Pub's 10th Anniversary Celebration, celebrating 10 years of presenting great music. A Double Celebration!

BQP has been asked to headline the prestigious Naach Nation VI! Held at Columbia University, this South Asian Dance Showcase features some of the finest South Asian Dance troupes in the US, coming together not only to perform, but also to raise money for charity. Since 2002, Naach Nation has asked several well-known guests artists, such as Karsh Kale and others, to perform and BQP is honored to be opening the ceremony this year. We will be performing a short 20 set to open.

"Maki Madni"

I discovered this track on the NFAK album "The Last Prophet" and it's a true gem. Only after choosing to transcribe it for BQP did I discover that "Derek Trucks Band," an eclectic American jam band, has recorded this song with NFAK's nephew Rahat Fateh Ali Khan. To listen to their version, click here. You can find the NFAK version on his records "Shahen-Shah" as well as "Live in London Vol IV" and "Sufi Qawwalis."

Along side Allah Hu and Mustt Mustt, this is the most requested NFAK song for BQP. Also popularized by the late great Jeff Buckley, who was a huge NFAK fan ("Nusrat's my Elvis!" he proclaimed).
